A dear friend of mine was eating a bag of chips one day, and was just about to bite into one, when a voice told her to look down.  What she saw was the Chai symbol on the chip.  Being a good Jewish woman, she promptly took the chip and set it aside, because it must be a sign.  When I saw the chip, I thought that it would be good to take some pictures of it, and present them here.  So l'chaim to all of you out there.

BMW X6 Mule

I spotted a BMW mule a while back while visiting Santa Barbara, CA.  I hadn't seen that specific body style on a BMW before, and with the body attachments that are supposed to keep you from seeing the final design, I figured that BMW was testing something new.  Having spent a lot of time around the GM Proving Grounds in Michigan, I know a mule when I see one.  Well, the other day, driving around San Rafael I saw an x6 in front of me, and thought, "that's what that mule was hiding".

UPDATE 01-28-2011:

It appears that I was wrong about the model, and am pretty sure that this mule is in fact hiding a 5 series Gran Tourismo tester.  Overall the 5 series GT and the X6 share fairly similar lines, but as I was driving around the other day, behind a 550iGT, it clicked that the mule wasn't an X6, but a 5 series GT. At first glance the GT has the lines, similar to a Porsche Panamera, but that isn't the competitor for this BMW.  It looks like BMW is competing with the usual suspects from Audi, Infiniti, Cadillac, Lincoln, Lexus, Mercedes Benz...

After a close look at these pics, and the actual 2011 production 5 Series GT you can see some of the lines are close, while others, including the tail lights and side body panels on the Mule aren't even close.  That's what they do with mules anyway, to keep the spies in check.

I almost like the lines of the mule better, to be honest.  With all that extra armor, and the black color, it looks kind of tough, in that Mad Max way.

While this doesn't matter much any longer, since I am pretty sure of the mule being a 5GT, I thought I would keep in this review of the X6 on Top Gear, just because it is so funny...

Jeremy Clarkson test drove an X6 in the series 14 finale of Top Gear.  As much as I like the looks of the production X6, I think I will be staying away, mainly for the pitiful traction on wet grass off road and on a snowy road.  Now, I know that the folks at Top Gear probably had tires that were probably rated more for tarmac, but still... Check out the review.
